Presidential Dog Names

Presidential families had a knack for choosing unique names for their pets. Here are a few of our favorites over the past 60 years.

1. Yuki: President Lyndon Johnson’s pup was a favorite amongst visitors and diplomats alike. President Johnson spent as much time with his dog as he could. Here he is sitting on a fence with Yuki in arms.

2. King Timahoe: Is a very boss name, and belonged to President Richard Nixons Irish Setter. Tall, fast and powerful  they make wonderful family dogs who are loyal and great with kids.

3. Liberty: After the Watergate Scandal and the resignation of President Nixon, Gerald Ford set out to earn the trust of Americans by adding stability to the presidency. With the help of his trusty Golden retriever Liberty he did just that. Liberty continued to win favor in the eyes of Americans when she gave birth to 9 puppies. Not only is Liberty a very unique name for a Dog, but it also had special meaning as the dog of a President.

4. Buddy: Found his way into the oval office in President Clinton’s second term as president. The chocolate Labrador loved to perform and show off for camera crews and reports by posing and letting them take pictures. The Labrador has long been an American favorite and was a perfect for the white house. While Buddy may not be a unique name he was a unique dog.

5. Miss Beazley: Was a gift from President George W. Bush to his wife Laura during their time in the White House. The Scottish Terrier was a great companion for First lady Bush.

I love these presidential dogs because they have special meaning to not only this great country but to those families who have led this country for decades. While much of a first families life is not their own the ability to bond with a dog who is completely loyal and loves unconditionally is a great way to remember life before all of the spotlight.

Some of my favorite names for dogs come from movies. Some of the best movies of all time have key roles played by mans best friend. Here are my 7 favorite dogs from movies and their unique names.

1. Dog from the movie Big Jake:

John Wayne one of the greatest actors of all time started in hundreds of movies. One of my favorite is Big Jake, where John Wayne grandson is kidnapped and ransomed for money. John Wayne accompanied by his sons and trusty dog named Dog, hunt down and kill the kidnappers. Dog plays a key role saving multiple peoples lives.

2. Hercules aka “The Beast” from Sandlot:

The worlds second most famous dog next to Lassie, is Hercules. Not only did this dog reign terror in the hearts of the friends from Sandlot but he also fit his name perfectly being huge and powerful. I love this name for either large dogs are ironically for small dogs.

3. Marley from Marley and Me:

Marley stole Americas heart with his mischievous ways ruining his owners home and almost their marriage. In the end this pup brings their family closer together than they could have ever just like our dogs do for us.

4 and 5. Chance and Shadow from Homeward Bound

These two best friends made one of the very first movies where the only real actors were dogs. As a kid I loved this movie so much, and watched it dozens of times with my little brother. To me each name is special and interesting. Chance is a great name for a lively active dog, and Shadow is perfect for a either a pretty, or mysterious unique dog name.

6. Slink from Toy Story

While Fang was not a key player in the Harry Potter serious he is a beautiful beast that was mans best friend to Hagrid our favorite Harry Potter character.
